Salary Schedules
Provided below the District of Columbia Government's general service,
or "District Service (DS), pay schedules for 1999 through 2008. The
District Government defines its salary schedules in a way that is
silmilar in format to that used by the Federal Government, although
the overall salary level for District employees is typically significantly
lower than for Federal Employees in the region. For example, in 2008
a District DS-11/1 (grade 11, step 1) level employee earns an annual
salary of $50,510, while a Federal Government GS-11/1 level employee receives
an annual salary of $58,206, representing a difference of approximately
15 percent.
